". . . One of my roommates is named Franklin L. Smith.  Smith has been in the Army for over three years (since before the draft came, anyway) and intends to stay in the Army for another 27 years.  He is the only person I know who is certain of what he intends to do after the war is over.  He sometimes asks me what I intend to do (mostly in self-defense, because I can't understand his wanting 27 more years of it).  He makes me think and I find that I don't know.  I do know that I should like to work my way through some foreign universities for a few years if I can get jobs in countries which may be in very poor post-war shape.  I would like to know more kinds of people and I think the exchange student idea is a good one. . .
